FRANKFORT, KY (March 24, 2026 ) - Yesterday, upon the release of Volume I of the Auditor’s Office’s annual Single Statewide Audit of Kentucky (SSWAK I), Governor Beshear accused the Auditor’s Office of providing that report to the press before publicly releasing it and before he saw it. This is an extremely concerning falsehood that shows that the Governor is not paying attention to what is happening within his administration.
The Governor's administration saw all of the findings of the report twice before its release to the public. In fact, as outlined in the timeline we have disclosed, his administration was given each individual finding months in advance of the report's release. As shown within the report itself, the Governor’s administration provided responses to each and every finding against it and agreed in writing with nearly all of them, admitting the need for updates and change. And again before public dissemination, the report was sent not only to many members of the Governor’s administration but also to the Governor’s Office directly.
“In order to complete our statewide audit of the Commonwealth, we provided every finding in this report to the Governor’s administration months in advance,” Auditor Ball said. “Notably, they responded in writing to every finding and agreed openly with most of them—all which can be reviewed in the report that was publicly released.”
The Governor’s administration’s responses to the findings in the report, showing that his administration received the report well in advance of its release, can be found throughout the report as linked here.
